The rapper Offset recently released an album entitled “Set It Off.” Since its release, the album has received mixed reviews. Some appreciate the rapper’s first solo album since the death of group member Takeoff, while others find the majority of the songs underwhelming and expected from Offset. In my opinion, the album falls somewhere in the middle of these opinions. Anyone who has listened to a Migos’ song can quickly identify them based on the beat and opening ad-libs alone. Offset was an active part of creating their distinct style; thus, it is expected for him to bring that similar style into his solo body of work. I think the problem people have is that the general public does not feel the Migos are as strong individually as they are together. Together, they have a melodic sound that flows together similarly. Separately, they come off as rappers copying each other’s style, which is common in the music industry today. Despite that, it is unfair to say Offset’s album does not have multiple songs with replay value. Offset adding a more rhythm and blues feel to several of his songs was the saving grace of the album. Below are the songs you should check out from his album.

In conclusion, Offset’s latest album, “Set It Off,” has sparked diverse opinions within the music community. While some applaud it as a commendable venture into solo work following Takeoff’s passing, others express reservations about the predictability and perceived lack of innovation in Offset’s individual style. From my standpoint, the album strikes a balance between these viewpoints. Having played a pivotal role in crafting Migos’ distinctive sound, it’s unsurprising that Offset incorporates similar elements into his solo endeavors. The challenge lies in the audience’s perception of the Migos’ strength as a collective versus as individuals. Despite the prevalent industry trend of artists adopting similar styles, dismissing Offset’s album entirely would be unjust. Notably, the infusion of a rhythm and blues vibe into select tracks serves as a redeeming quality.
